"I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me. How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders!"- Daniel 4:2-3a
Four months to the day of our arrival in Africa, GWMI became an official Non Government Organization (NGO) in Ghana!
GWMI in Ghana's purpose is to TRAIN GHANAIAN LEADERS to plant children's homes for orphans, evangelize and disciple believers through small groups, and orchestrate community development projects through cottage industries.
This week another milestone was passed, as God opened a door for our work-residency permits to be processed! It is now official! We have been granted one year permit to live and minister in Ghana. This permit will be renewed on an annual basis. Despite the previous opposition God has shown Himself strong on our behalf. It has been an amazing journey over the past three months of transition, to see God working wonders, and establishing us here in Ghana.
The first project underway is the Ajumako children's home, located in the Central Region, which is the third poorest region in Ghana. There are many Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) struggling with malnutrition, neglect and abuse, and suffering from the lack of education and medical care. Child trafficking is also a problem, as children can easily be sold into forced child labor by desperate adults.
Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District CEO, the Honorable Kenneth Obempong has helped facilitate the creation of GWMI, to begin caring for the two thousand orphans in his area. A facility has been located that will become home to the first 60 orphans! Construction should be completed in the next few months, and the first children could be rescued this fall!
While setting up organizations (both here in Ghana, and in the US) we have stayed very busy! Between attending funerals and weddings, and other important social functions, we have been studying how other organizations work.
Recently we were able to travel to the Western Region and spend time with the excellent ministry team at "Word Alive". "Word Alive" is seeing God transform lives through their school, Orphanage, Vocational Training Institute, School of Nursing, Bible College and Seminary, and churches!
We were able to spend a day ministering to the "Word Alive" orphans, and were touched to hear their stories and see the progress in the lives of the children. One boy had been born two months premature, with severe medical problems, and the doctors had never expected him to survive. At four years old he is a normal boy, singing, dancing, and playing with the other children at "Word Alive". God is given all the glory for his life, and health.
Larry spoke to over 600 teenagers at the "Esian Senior Secondary School", in a powerful service on the root sin of 'discontentment'. Later that same morning he preached at the Word Alive Esiama church. A video clip of the worship service can be seen online at www. GodofWonder.org/videos.htm.
God is doing amazing things, as we look to Him to continue opening doors for the development of GWMI Ghana. You can keep track of our praise reports and prayer requests online, and view our adventures through the photo gallery, at www.GodofWonder.org.
There are many opportunities for participation, both in the US and in Ghana. If you have a heart to help lives being transformed, and want to join what God is doing through GWMI, please visit the Partner page at www.GodofWonder.org/Partner-Support.htm.
